Selection Process

Edmonds hires as part of a regional consortium, Public Safety Testing, and requires Firefighter 1 and EMT certifications as a minimum requirement.  Visit: www.PublicSafetyTesting.com for further information.

Public Safety Testing administers the written and physical-ability test (CPAT). When a vacancy occurs, PST forwards the names of the top-scoring candidates.

 

The Fire Department conducts an oral interview and Chief's interview. Psychological and medical testing, and a background check follow for selected candidates. The Department uses the Rule of Ten.

 

Volunteer (part-time, on-call, non-paid) Firefighter

Applicants may obtain an application by calling Fire Administration at 425-771-0215, and will be contacted as openings arise. Volunteer Firefighters provide assistance to public education programs, perform support tasks at major emergencies, and assist with delivery of emergency medical services. Training is provided. Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Washington State Vehicle Operator's license.
