| In 2004, the Edmonds Fire
Department will celebrate its 100th birthday!
As part of the birthday celebration and to
help the City and Department capture a working piece of its
firefighting history, the non-profit Edmonds Fire Safety Foundation's
Centennial Committee raised funds to bring home the refurbished
1938 Ford Fire Engine No. 1.
The engine was in service from 1938 to the
1970s. For several of the early years, it was the only fire
engine with a water tank between Everett and Seattle. The
engine was beautifully restored by a retired Edmonds Firefighter.
The Committee raised over $10,000 to purchase the antique
icon, which is displayed at Station 17 in downtown Edmonds
for the entire community to enjoy. Look for the engine at
many community events.
